Your membership: trial, billing, canceling and switching packages
This is for teachers who want to know how the free trial works, what happens when it ends, how to cancel, and how to move to a bigger package. Everything here is self-serve from your account page or the upgrade page.
The free trial
- A card is required to start, but nothing is charged during the trial. Starting a trial creates a real subscription with your card or PayPal account that includes a free period.
- Every package starts with the same free trial. During the trial you get every feature of the package you picked.
- Cancel before the trial ends and you are never charged. There is nothing to refund, because no money changed hands.
- If you do not cancel, your first charge happens when the trial ends, at your package's price for the billing interval you chose.
- If the trial ends without a paid subscription, the app locks. Start a plan at any time and it unlocks again.
Monthly or yearly
Every package can be billed monthly or yearly. Yearly billing works out to two months free compared with paying monthly for a year. The features are the same either way. Only the price and how often it renews change. Your subscription renews each billing period, monthly or yearly, whichever you chose, until you cancel. Current prices are on the pricing page.
30-day money-back guarantee
If Fret Beam is not for you after your trial converts, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first subscription charge, monthly or yearly. Contact us within 30 days of that first charge and it is refunded in full. Renewal charges after the first paid period are not refundable by default, so the way to avoid a renewal is to cancel before it bills. The full policy is on the Refund Policy page.
Canceling
- Sign in and open your account page.
- Paid by card? Click Manage billing. It opens the Stripe billing page, where you manage or cancel your subscription.
- Paid with PayPal? Click Cancel subscription. The page confirms with "Your subscription has been canceled."
What happens next:
- Canceling stops all future billing. The app keeps working through the end of the period you already paid for, then it locks.
- Canceling during the free trial means you are never charged. The app locks when the trial ends.
- Nothing is deleted. Your membership key, your saved tabs and your exported files are kept.
Coming back after you cancel
Your account page shows a Restart your plan button once your subscription is canceled. It takes you to the pricing page. Start a plan with the same account and your same membership key unlocks the app, with everything where you left it.
Moving to a bigger package
- Open the upgrade page. In the app, open Settings and click Upgrade your package in the Membership key panel. A locked feature in the app also shows a small tag with the package name, and clicking it opens the same page. You can also go to the upgrade page while signed in to your account.
- Pick monthly or yearly. The page lists every package above yours, with what each one adds.
- Click Switch to the package you want, then confirm on the next screen.
- Paid by card: you confirm the change with Stripe. You pay the difference for the rest of this billing period now, then the new price from the next renewal.
- Paid with PayPal: you approve the change with PayPal. The new price starts with your next payment.
- Still in your free trial: the rest of the trial stays free. The new price starts when the trial ends.
- Quit and reopen Fret Beam. The new features are on. Your membership key stays the same.
