Your membership key

This is for teachers entering their membership key in Fret Beam for the first time, moving the app to another computer, or checking why the app says it is locked. Your membership key is what unlocks your package in the app.

Where to find your key

• Your welcome email. The key and the download link both arrive there.
• Your account page. Sign in and look under License key. It is the same key.

The key starts with FB-. It never changes, even when you switch packages or cancel and come back later.

Entering the key in the app

1. Open Fret Beam. On the first launch, a Welcome to Fret Beam screen asks for your key. Click Enter my key. You can also open Settings and scroll to the Membership key panel.
2. Paste the key into the field.
3. Click Save. The panel checks the key and shows your status.

Once it is saved, the panel shows Key saved with the last characters of your key, plus a status:

• Trial, with the days left in your free trial
• Active, for a paid membership
• Membership ended, when the trial ran out without a paid plan or a canceled plan reached the end of its paid period
• That key didn't match, when the key is not one we issued. Check the key in your welcome email.

To use a different key, click Replace key, paste the new one, and click Save.

Using Fret Beam on another computer

1. Install the app on the other computer. See Installing Fret Beam on a Mac or Installing Fret Beam on Windows.
2. Enter the same membership key in the Membership key panel.

Each package includes a set number of computers, and the pricing page lists the number for each package. The limit is enforced generously. If a key shows up on more computers than its package includes, we may contact you before taking any action.

If the app says your membership isn't active

The app shows Your membership isn't active when your free trial ended without a paid plan, or when a canceled plan reached the end of its paid period. Start a plan from the pricing page with the same account. Your key stays the same, and the app unlocks with everything where you left it. Common questions

Do I need a new key after switching packages? No. Quit and reopen Fret Beam after the change and the new features are on.

Is my key the same on Mac and Windows? Yes. The download page uses the same key for both, and you pick Mac or Windows there.
